Wisconsin Month of the Horse
On January 3, 2008 Governor Jim Doyle declared that April 2008 is the Wisconsin Month of the Horse.
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the citizens of Wisconsin should be mindful of the contribution of equines to this great state’s economy, history, heritage, culture and character; and
WHEREAS, without horses, the economy, history, and character of Wisconsin and the United States would be profoundly different; and
WHEREAS, horses remain an omnipresent part of our culture and collective experience as a state and country; and
WHEREAS, the American Horse Council National Economic Impact of the U.S. Horse Industry estimates that of the 9.2 million horses in the United States, approximately 179,000 resided in Wisconsin — a population that ranks 22nd in the nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jim Doyle, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, do hereby proclaim April, 2008 as
WISCONSIN MONTH OF THE HORSE
in recognition of the importance of horses to the security, economy, recreation, and heritage of Wisconsin.
